General Concepts: Slimefun is a large plugin that implements a large assortment of magical and technical gadgets to make survival game play much easier. Using resources found in the survival world, players can craft items and machines that make tasks such as acquiring food, fighting mobs, and even getting around in the world much easier than you could do in survival, even if you have a good background in redstoning in vanilla Minecraft.
While many vanilla items are used in Slimefun crafting recipes, by far the most important one to gather is gravel, since gravel can be sifted into various dusts, which are essential crafting components in many Slimefun items. I highly recommend looking for a large ocean or gravel mountain to gather a large amount of gravel, since it is difficult to get large quantities of gravel elsewhere.
Recipes for all items in the plugin can be found in the Slimefun Guide, which is given to every new player on the server, and is available to all players at no cost using the command "/slimefun guide". Inside the guide, you will see that almost every item inside the guide is colored red, meaning that the ability to craft that item is locked to the player. To unlock those recipes, the player must spend a certain number of EXP levels to unlock the crafting recipe. Because of the large volume of recipes that need to be unlocked, it is highly recommended to visit an EXP grinder regularly to unlock items in the Slimefun Guide.
Basic Machines: These are the machines that you will use for crafting most materials and items in Slimefun. While many of these have late-game counterparts in the "Energy and Electricity" section of the guide, players will need to make most (if not all) of these machines at some point.
Enhanced Crafting Table: Made by placing a dispenser on the ground, and then placing a crafting table on top of it. crafting recipes go inside the dispenser, and when you're ready to craft, right click the crafting table and take out the crafted item from inside the dispenser. *Note: you have to take the crafted item out to craft a second item, or you will get an error message in chat. Make sure that there is room for the crafted item inside the dispenser as well or it will give the same error. **Note: The enhanced crafting table is very picky about which slots are used in a crafting recipe, unlike the vanilla crafting table. if a recipe is not working and you're sure you have all the correct materials in the correct places, shift the entire recipe around in different spots inside the dispenser, until you get an orientation that works.
Grind Stone: Made by placing a dispenser on the ground than an oak fence on top, it is used to grind certain materials into others, such as grinding cobblestone into gravel, gravel into flint, 8 cobblestone into sand, etc. Place the items in the dispenser and right click the fence to grind them.
Armor Forge: Made by placing a dispenser on the ground than an anvil on top, it is used to craft armor from the Armor and Magical Armor section of the Slimefun Guide. Crafting recipes go inside the dispenser, and right-clicking the anvil will craft the item that corresponds to the recipe inside the dispenser. Some of the more useful items crafted inside of here are Slime Boots and Leggings, Glowstone armor, and Reinforced Armor.
Ore Crusher: Made by placing a dispenser on the ground, with iron bars on two opposite sides and a nether brick fence on top, it is used to crush items such as iron/gold ore into 2 iron/gold dust, 16 netherrack into sulfate, etc. Right-clicking on the nether brick fence will crush the item inside the dispenser.
Compressor: Made by placing a dispenser on the ground, then 2 pistons on opposite sides of the dispenser and a nether brick fence on top, its primary purpose is to compress coal into carbon and certain ingots into plates for various recipes. Right-clicking the nether brick fence will compress the item inside.
Smeltery: Made by placing a dispenser on the ground, then 2 nether brick blocks on opposite sides of the dispenser, then a nether brick fence on top and a fire block below (recommended to use netherrack to keep the fire lit indefinitely), the Smeltery is a highly important machine that is used to smelt various dusts into ingots. Place the dusts inside the dispenser and then right-click the nether brick fence to smelt the items inside.* *Note: every few times you use the Smeltery, the fire under the Smeltery will go out. This needs to be either lit manually or lit automatically by connecting an observer block that is connected to a dispenser with flint and steels inside under the smeltery to automatically re-light the fire.
Pressure Chamber: Made by placing a dispenser 2 blocks above the ground, with a glass block 1 block below and a cauldron 2 blocks below, with pistons on 2 sides of the glass and cauldron and a pair of stone slabs on top of the pistons. Not to be confused with the Compressor, it is used to compress certain items further than the compressor, such as in crafting Synthetic Diamonds or Carbonado. Place the items inside the dispenser, and right click the cauldron to activate.
Magic Workbench: Made by placing a dispenser on the ground, and then a crafting table 1 block to the left and a bookshelf 2 blocks to the left of the dispenser, this is the machine that is used for crafting the majority of the magical items in Slimefun. Right-click the crafting table to craft the item inside the dispenser.
Ore Washer: Made by placing a dispenser 2 blocks above the ground, with an oak fence 1 block below and a cauldron 2 blocks below. It is another highly useful machine since it converts sifted ore into the 9 different types of dust in Slimefun.* *Note: The Ore Washer also creates 1 stone chunk per sifted ore that is washed, which is a completely useless item in Slimefun. Thankfully, it can be converted into cobblestone by placing 4 stone chunks in the Compressor.
Automated Panning Machine: Made by placing a cauldron with a trapdoor on top, it is used to convert gravel into sifted ore, flint, and clay balls. While Slimefun does have a handheld version (Called the Gold Pan, crafted with 5 stone and a bowl in the Enhanced Crafting Table), this machine converts gravel inside the player's inventory to sifted ore, instead of needing to place gravel to use the gold pan. Right-click the trapdoor with gravel in your hand to begin panning for sifted ore.
Other Topics: Ancient Altar and Pedestals: Made by placing the Ancient Altar in the middle, with 8 Ancient pedestals in a ring 2 blocks outward from the Ancient Altar, it is used to make runes in Slimefun, a crafting component of several Magical items in Slimefun. Right-click the Ancient Pedestals with the crafting ingredients, and then right-click the Ancient Altar to craft.
Basics on Electricity in Slimefun: There are a few key components to make an energy system: the Energy Regulator, the Capacitor, and the Generator. All these items need to be within 5 blocks in a straight line on the x, y, or z axis. the Energy Regulator is the hub of the system, giving the current net energy left in the system, while capacitors are used to store excess electricity and extend the system, and Generators are used to produce electricity. From there, the machine that needs to be powered needs to be placed within 5 blocks of either the Energy Regulator or a Capacitor to receive power from the system. There are different tiers of capacitor and different types of generators, it is up to the player to decide which one is easiest to make and maintain while supplying sufficient energy to the system.
Repairing Slimefun Tools and Armor: Slimefun Tools and armor cannot be fixed using an anvil in vanilla Minecraft, so to repair an item the player must make an Auto Anvil from the Energy and Electricity section of the Slimefun Guide. The Auto Anvil uses Duct Tape (found in the miscellaneous section of the Slimefun Guide) to fix items. Alternatively, the player can apply Mending onto the piece using an Auto Enchanter (vanilla anvil doesn't allow you to apply enchanted books either) and then repair the item using EXP orbs.
